Muscle Building Diets Protein

Posted by Mike Behnken, MS, CSCS

Any personal trainer must have the common knowledge about muscle building diets. A muscle building diet for a non-overweight client must be hypercaloric.

There are very few personal trainers who double as nutrition experts. Many personal trainers know all about nutrition … for themselves but fail to realize that different people have different needs.

A fact that perhaps most personal trainers don’t understand is…

Dietary Protein does not Build Muscle

Dietary protein IS muscle. The insulin response from carbohydrate intake along with protein breakdown and intake is what actually builds muscle.

So much is made of protein intake that the more important optimal balance of the entire diet (protein-carbohydrate-fat) is sometimes forgotten.

Muscle building diets are available in almost every “Muscle & Fiction” type of magazine. Most of these muscle building diets are complete trash designed for anybody but the average person who reads the crap.

The page about muscle building diets attempted to show that building muscle is more about individualization than finding the often searched for, “Magic formula” which doesn’t exist.

Protein requirements will be saved for the nutrition myths page which will focus on all the BS people love, which the media constantly feeds them.

Long term inaccuracies such as a gram of protein per pound of bodyweight or the mythical 30 grams per meal only myth need to be covered as well as many other things.

There is hope that one day, people will eventually be educated in everything about fat loss and muscle building and use a proper balanced training and nutrition program effectively all by themselves.

  1. This is good to know. Six pack abs and muscle go hand in hand.
