Wow, It Just Hit Me How Difficult Video Editing Will be

Posted by Mike Behnken, MS, CSCS

It complicates things when I recorded all my exercise videos with my canon hg10 camcorder. All the files were filmed in High Definition at the highest quality.

What I would like to do, is take the videos, crop them, create a new soundtrack and also take some stills from the videos to use as pictures. In this digital world, I hope they are all possible. I know it will not be easy. If anybody reading this blog knows anything about Adobe Premiere Pro, canon HG10 Camcorder and video editing, please let me know what to expect.

Everybody always tells me for video editing a Mac is way better than a PC. I would never switch to Mac simply because I have been using a PC forever. I have a laptop with a dual core processor which should be able to handle a little video editing.

Today I used my digital camera, which happens to be a 10.1 MP Casio Exilim which has followed me all over the world and even survived a drop in a bowl of oatmeal. I used the video on that for an intro and outro I will put on my website FitSF.com I thought it would be a good idea to make my site even more personal. I think it’s personal enough, basically telling everything about me, but a video will be nice and web 2.0

  1. Hi, you might want to look at my blog http://www.canoncamerabuzz.com which has links to loads of conversations and trouble-shoots about the HG10, including plenty of blog posts and forum conversations about the issues around editing with the cam. I have in fact posted about your blog on there before! Hope you find some useful stuff on there

  2. [...] Personal Trainer has been really pleased with the high quality images from his HG10, bought to record training videos to sell on the net. However, he is beginning to realise that his lack of expertise may limit him when it comes to editing HD footage. Basically, he wants to ‘take the videos, crop them, create a new soundtrack and also take some stills from the videos to use as pictures’, and has asked for any good advice about doing this using a dual core processor PC and Adobe Premiere Pro - let him know if you’ve used this set-up to create a great film.
